The Unyielding Spirit of the Cowboys

The Arctic Cowboys are back underway after about a week of rest, repair, and resupply.  They paddled 7.5 miles today under less-than-ideal conditions.  Winds were at 26 mph with gusts over 35 miles per hour.  In addition, they had freezing rain.  Getting in 7.5 miles under those conditions just shows the fortitude this team has to finish this expedition.

With the same condition projected for Sunday, the team will wait it out and start fresh on Monday when the weather conditions improve significantly.  The Arctic Cowboys were picked up and hosted by Shawn Marriott of Cambridge Bay.  Shawn drove out to the team in his 4-wheel drive truck, definitely having to use that feature more than once.  Roads were wet after several continuous days of rain.

West sent pictures, with Shawn’s permission, of his trophy wall and a pair of skis signed by Will Stegar, one of West’s all-time heroes.

It’s amazing all of the wonderful and well-traveled people we get to meet throughout any of these expeditions.  We have met expeditioners from all over the world in Cambridge Bay.  We have met researchers doing important work for the environment.  We have met locals who always do what they can to help.

Total:  966.21 Miles        Today:  7.5 Miles            Expedition:  904.21 Miles
