Shawn Marriott’s Generosity: A Helping Hand in the Arctic

The Arctic Cowboys embarked on another challenging day of paddling through the icy waters of the Arctic, covering an impressive 23.7 miles despite the cold and windy weather. Their new dry suits proved to be a game-changer, keeping the team warmer and drier than their previous gear ever did. The team decided to make a pit stop at a campsite located at Cape Enterprise, nestled amidst a gorgeous meadow, a crystal-clear pond, and very cool rock formations.

The day wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Shawn Marriott who took the team back to their launch site yesterday afternoon. Shawn gave the team a tour of his grounds, storage facilities, and fishing outfit. A final trip to town for supplies, courtesy of Marriott, ensured the team was well-prepared for the days ahead. He was a big help to our team and we appreciate all of his assistance.

However, the Arctic environment can be unforgiving, and the Cowboys are acutely aware of the ever-changing conditions. As the nights grow darker, the team adjusts their expedition schedule when they start and stop paddling each day in order to have time to set up camp, eat dinner, and get to bed. The 24-hour daylight that once accompanied their journey is now replaced by the natural darkness of the Arctic night, rendering sleep masks unnecessary. Winter is coming.

The Arctic’s diverse animal life is a captivating aspect of this region, and the Cowboys are eagerly anticipating spotting some of its incredible inhabitants as they continue their journey but have not seen any wildlife recently.
