Progress and Preparation

We’re here with an update on our Arctic expedition, where every moment counts and challenges are met head-on. Despite the relentless rain and gusty winds that have kept us grounded for the past couple of days, our team’s spirits remain undaunted.

The rain is finally giving us a brief respite, set to pause around 6:00 am tomorrow morning. During these soggy days, our cozy tent has become both a refuge and an entertainment hub. Card games, crossword puzzles, and reading materials have filled our time, punctuated by quick naps to recharge our energy. We’ve valiantly steered clear of food discussions.

Back at home, Barbara made arrangements to have one more shipment sent to our contact, Andre, in Cambridge Bay. Barbara worked closely with Immersion Research who have proven to be invaluable. Sales Manager Max Blackburn and his exceptional team swiftly organized a crucial shipment of paddling gear for us that we need immediately and shipped it Express Priority. Immersion Research, a hub for all things related to paddling and cold-weather gear, has stepped up to provide us with the essential equipment we need to brave the elements – which is exactly what we need. Stay tuned for more details on this as our expedition unfolds.

The team will depart as soon as safely possible and head toward Cambridge Bay where they will quickly resupply, clean their clothes, rest up, and then head out. They will have to move quickly to miss the ice that will start to form on the west side of the Arctic as the summer season begins to close.  Time is of the essence.

Expedition Manager Barbara is singularly responsible for many things including meticulously planning every aspect surrounding the physical part of the, including transportation (air, land, and sea), accommodation, equipment, supplies/resupplies, logistical planning, safety and risk management, team coordination, environmental stewardship, budgeting and financial management, permit and legal compliance, and as communication liaison between the team and the public. The list goes on. She must ensure that all necessary resources are available and well-prepared for the expedition.

Your financial support continues to be a driving force for us. We invite you to explore the fantastic items available for purchase on our website, including magnets, stickers, and patches. Every sale directly contributes to funding our journey and covering the mounting expenses. And don’t forget, our Worldwide Waterways campaign remains active, offering the opportunity for tax-deductible donations.
