Murray Point : Razor’s Edge Camp

Arctic Cowboys Northwest Passage High Winds WindyAfter enduring some heavy chop at the initial take-off, the sun rose, the seas calmed down, and the day unfolded as an excellent paddling day. With 30 miles paddled behind them, our team found itself at Murray Point, a camp aptly named Razor’s Edge Camp after the 1984 movie with Bill Murray, “The Razor’s Edge.

The campsite welcomed us with a picturesque cove flanked by towering cliffs and hills—a dramatic change from the flat lands we’ve encountered throughout this expedition. Nature had one more surprise in store for us, as we experienced wet weather overnight, with the rain expected to end around 9:00 am on Friday.

As for wildlife sightings, the Arctic Cowboys haven’t seen any living thing, only lots, and lots of antlers. No fish, no whales, no seals, no bears, no caribou—just a wilderness waiting to be revealed.

Looking ahead, we brace ourselves for at least four days of higher winds. Tuesday and Wednesday have been earmarked as our “stay-put and hunker down” days. While the forecast shows no rain, the Northwest Passage is like Southeast Texas in one regard—it can experience all four seasons in a single day. Prepare for sudden changes; adaptability is our greatest asset because it can change on a dime.
