Highspeed Rides and Determination

Thursday, September 21, marked a significant day for our team. They paddled a solid 42 miles, embracing the challenges and the unpredictable beauty of the Arctic. The day kicked off with a test of their mettle as they encountered 6 to 30-foot rollers, but this seasoned team handled it with unwavering resolve.

One of the rare blessings bestowed by the Arctic was a lack of wind, and the weather forecast by, Barbara and Tom, held true. Occasionally, the Arctic sunshine peeked through the clouds, offering brief moments of warmth. Later in the day, the tides turned in their favor, and our adventurers rode those waves, logging some exhilarating 7 mph segments. It was a welcome change from the relentless rain and high winds they had endured in recent days.

Today, they will strive to launch at 8 a.m. and paddle later in the day to catch the end-of-day tide again to scrape out a few more miles. At this point, every single mile counts. Beating the winter weather coming in will be their challenge. Tomorrow, the predicted weather includes some ice mixed with rain and winds. Despite this, they will try to get a few miles in.

In this isolated corner of the world, miles from bustling communities, the Arctic Cowboys get to enjoy each other’s company. Since departing from Cambridge Bay, they haven’t crossed paths with a single soul. While a few boats have passed them, such encounters are becoming increasingly rare. Even the Arctic animals seem to have chosen to stay hidden. Their singular focus now is reaching their destination as swiftly as possible.

As they paddle through the Arctic wilderness, the team faces unexpected mounting expenses that have set them back. If you’re in a position to lend a hand, they would greatly appreciate your support on GoFundMe. To those who have already contributed, a heartfelt thank you. For those unable to assist financially, your continued support through sharing social media posts of their journey means the world. Thank you for being part of this remarkable expedition.
